Prints are reflective and slides are transparent.

You need a scanner that was designed to convert slides to digital. Film scanners such as the Epson V500, etc. have a special light in the hood that shines light through the slide and onto the flat bed.

In a way, you've already answered your own question. If you can't find anything in the User's Manual or anywhere on the web about scanning filmstrip negatives with your printer, then it's a pretty sure bet that it's not designed for it, nor does it have the necessary filmstrip adapter that would be needed if it was capable. Anything about that capability would have been included in the manual.

I did check the specifications for your model printer, and it does not support filmstrip negatives scanning. Sorry.

Trying to scan filmstrip negatives on a regular scanner, without the adapter, is a futile endeavor and will not work in any acceptable form.

You'll need to either get an all-in-one or MFP printer that does support that, or buy a dedicated filmstrip scanner just for that purpose.

Best of luck.

I highly doubt you can scan film strips at all. You can try scanning them as if they were normal papers and see how they turn out.

What kind of scanner are you using, the slides usually need to be attached to an adapter that has a light on it that should have come with your scanner.

Read the manual. Does you scanner have the capability to scan slides? If not, then that is the reason why.

It depends what you mean by best. The best quality would come from the highest setting your scanner will scan at. The best combination of quality and size/speed will vary depending on your needs, but I usually use 300dpi.

Many inexpensive scanners will scan 35mm slides and negatives but the 120 film negatives are not as easy to scan on most consumer level scanners. Also, if you spend less on the scanner you will typically get less desirable results. There are some companies that will scan your 35mm slides and film for you and they have the best scanners around because they can afford them because they use them for more than just one collection of slides and film. I have used www.discountdigitalart.com and found the images were very high quality.
